Sabra Aguirre, Yates Center, will sing a wide variety of songs, some from Lady Gaga, U2 and Cold Play, at the Warehouse Theatre, 203 S. Jefferson Ave., Thursday evening at 7 o’clock for another in Iola Community Theatre’s five-year run of One Night Stands.
Aguirre also will play piano and have backup from Iolan Jared Ellis on guitar.
The performance was to have been last Thursday, but the snow storm forced postponement to this week.
This appearance will be in stark contrast to her first ever.
“When I was four, Mom pushed me up in front of the congregation” at their church, knowing her little girl had a voice and stage presence far in advance of her age, Aguirre said.
Performing has been a part of her life ever since and if she had the financial wherewithal that’s what she’d be doing full time.
“I don’t have the luxury right now to just sing,” said Aguirre, 21. “It’s hard to get established.”
In the meantime, she works at mother Pam Tressler’s shop, Class Act Salon.
Thursday’s night appearance will include solos as well as some duets with Ellis, with whom she sings at Saturday night’s Fellowship Regional Church services and where he is minister. No admission will be charged and refreshments will be provided.

AGUIRRE sang throughout her school days in Yates Center and had her first opportunity to showcase her talent in a center stage setting with ICT’s “Beehive,” a reprise of girl singers from the 1950s and ’60s.
She was in “America is,” Jan Knewtson’s tribute to the nation, when she was in sixth grade.
“I was in both the children’s and adult choir,” Aguirre recalled.
Then, at age 14, she tried out for “Beehive,” along with her mother, whose education and love is music.
“You were supposed to be 18 to try out and I just left the age line blank,” Aguirre said.
Richard Spencer, the director, was so impressed with her vocal and stage expertise, as well as maturity, that he overlooked the age requirement.
“She was so good I couldn’t leave her out of the show,” Spencer said.
Aguirre has been in several other ICT productions, including “Annie get your Gun,” “Godspell” and “Into the Woods.”
